2008 Events
March 15: St. Patty's day party at Glenda's. Don't bring any green beer unless it's color is due to hops!!!
April: First round of the AHA National Homebrew Competition! Entries are due between March 31st and April 11th. Entries are $12 for non-members, $8 for AHA members (see me to become a member). Got that one special brew? It can win - I'm proof of that. See the AHA NHC page for more details.
May 3: Big Brew 2008! We will once again hit the banks of the Nolichucky River with our brewing rigs and celebrate National Homebrew Day. Let's make this our best yet, though trying to top 65 people for Dinner in 2006 will be tough. The location is River Park campground, off of state highway 81 between Jonesborough and Erwin. More details will follow as we iron them out.
Directions to the campground: It is located at 3937 Highway 81 South, Jonesborough. 753-5359. Probably the easiest way to get there is to take I-26 south to Erwin to the Hwy 81 exit. Turn right toward Jonesborough, go about 5.3 miles and you'll see it on your right. The shortest way would be to take exit 31 in Johnson City, heading toward ETSU. Take a left on Cherokee road and follow it to the end where it intersects with state hwy 81. Turn left and go about 5 or 6 miles and the campground is on your left. Their website is here. For those coming from the west, you can either come thru Jonesborough down 81 about 8 or 10 miles, or come east on hwy 107 to 81, turn right an go a couple of miles.
June: The 5th Annual Cumberland Kegger in Crossville, TN. This event is a combination campout, pig roast, and keg-only homebrew competition at the farm of Jay Schrade, a member of the Tennessee Valley Homebrewers. Contact Jay Schrade for more information (or to RSVP).
June 19-21: The 30th Annual National Homebrewer's Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. See details at NHC 2008.
July 14: Lagers, Ales, and Food at Funfest! The 3rd edition of the first beer and food pairing event in the region! This event put on by the State of Franklin Homebrewers, FunFest, and Meadowview Conference center will feature premium craft and import brews paired with samples of gourmet foods created by chef Robert Siquenza especially for this event. Tickets are limited and will be sold by FunFest, so get yours quickly.
August 2: Come celebrate the AHA's annual Mead Day. It will once again be at Chris Sutter's house, beginning around 6pm to beat the heat. More details to follow.
August 15-17 (Tentative): 13th annual SFH Campout at Riverpark campground. We've got half of the campground reserved, so come on out and have a great time. Details will follow.
Their website is here.
September 20 (Tentative):
12th Annual Great Smokies Brewgrass Festival in Asheville, NC. This is one of the best festivals around, and is just 50 miles over the mountain from Johnson City. The location for 2008 is yet to be determined.
